Dr. Burkes practice observed its 25th anniversary on April Fools Day, 2006. Yes, he has been practicing chiropractic for over 25 years now. He graduated - with honors, he reminds us - from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1974. In 1976, heedless of warnings from Governor Tom McCall, he moved to Oregon and attended Western States Chiropractic College in Portland. About four years later he was awarded the Doctor of Chiropractic degree in a strange rite of passage where the initiates wore long robes and square hats with tassels, the significance of which remains obscure. He went on to receive post-graduate training in radiology and orthopedics, becoming a board certified chiropractic orthopedist in 1988. Still not satisfied, he attended post-graduate courses in spine rehabilitation sponsored by Los Angeles Chiropractic College.
Dr. Burke utilizes a combination of spinal adjustments, therapeutic massage techniques, and exercise. "I usually give patients homework assignments," he says when explaining how active participation helps patients continue to improve between treatments. He is an associate faculty member of Western States Chiropractic College, served a 3-year term on the peer review committee of the Oregon Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and is a consultant to insurers, attorneys, and state agencies in the areas of workers' compensation, personal injury, malpractice, and treatment guidelines. He is a cofounder and former president and CEO of ChiroNet® (now Complementary Healthcare PlansSM) which provides managed chiropractic and alternative health care services to HMOs and other health care plans. He wants to be a policeman when he grows up.

Dr. Freedland actually was a policeman before becoming a chiropractor. He served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department while attending Cleveland Chiropractic College where he was honored as the graduate who gave the loudest adjustments. ... Wait! That was a typo. It should have said that he graduated summa cum laude in 1988. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from California State University, Long Beach.
Sometime during the last century he left his native Los Angeles, loaded up the family, and moved to Oregon. He has been practicing in Tigard since 1993 although he is known to take occasional lunch breaks and very short vacations.
Dr. Freedland has post-graduate training in Sports Injuries and is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician. He has been the team doctor for various running teams and has served many, many times on the medical staff of the Hood-to-Coast Relay, the Portland Marathon, and the Rose City Relay. Community activities include the Tigard Police Reserves and Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue. As if this was not enough to keep anyone extremely busy, he has also been a CPR and First Aid instructor for the American Red Cross for over 25 years.
